Parental Support Group provides substance abuse education to parents/ guardians or community members to enable or enhance rapport between parents and children.

It provides parents with effective coping skills, and they will also have an opportunity to discuss their problems and receive practical and emotional support.

Support groups are a vital resource for families of drug addicts. Family members may experience a variety of emotional responses to their loved one’s drug addiction, including guilt, shame, anxiety, grief, and anger. Support groups are facilitated by a licensed social worker, psychotherapist, or addictions counselor can help family members as well as community members process and heal any emotional wounds they may have as a result of the addiction surrounded by the support of peers who are experiencing similar family difficulties.


Information will be provided on the following:

  • The types, causes and effects of substance abuse as well as the treatment thereof.
  • Various interventions and policies implemented by the government at national, provincial and local level to eradicate substance abuse.
  • Information provided by experts, e.g educational psychologists, through various assessments has to be shared with parents.
